News (Updated 07/31/2008) Not much in the news department, so I am going to put up some stuff I know.
The championship Gaming Series finals have come and gone. 2 teams met, but only one walked away with a half million dollars. The Birmingham Salvo beat down the San Francisco Optix. Who was your team? Who will your team be next year? Check the CGS web site to find out about tryouts and up coming matches. I mean, what easier way to win a bunch of money. Keep checking the weather, it seems to change quickly. Just head over to our weather page. If anyone has any pics from the Southwest conferenceor the recent Motorcycle Mixer, send them to me. I try and get them up for everyone to enjoy. Also, if anyone has any news they want to get out, let me know about it, this way I can put it up here as well. You don't see many updates here only because there is not much info coming my way. If you haven't yet, check out the new links page, and let me know what you think. |

Words from The President Blue Knights members, The last meeting was held on July 3rd at Jaliscos in El Centro. Attendance was very low, but those of us that were there (Steve, Suzy and Martin) had a good time. I understand that it was Thursday before the 4th of July weekend and in retrospect perhaps we should have postponed it a week or so. We should keep that in mind for future reference. Plans for our annual poker run continue. Steve and Mario continue to work on the flyer and ride pin design. Jesse Z is working on the route and route map. Arcy will coordinate will Tacos and Beer for the lunch and final stop. Imperial Valley Cycle Center (IVCC) will sponsor us as usual and the guys said that they will try to repeat last years treat of breakfast burritos. please start collecting gift and prizes for the giveaway/raffle. Brain at IVCC said that they wouldn't mind putting the food and drinks if we made the cycle center the final stop. the only thing is that he said no beer. I know that many of you really enjoy your hops and barley, so its up to the membership if we go for it or not. It would mean more profits for the selected charity, but we may lose attendees. The next meeting is scheduled for August 7th. We will meet at Jaliscos in El Centro. Meet to eat at 1800 (6pm) and meeting starts at 1900 (7pm). Remember the meetings are the first Thursday of the month. There are some new members you have to meet, so be there. The idea of an evening ride was brought up and we need ride captains to plan rides in the upcoming months. Speaking of which, IVCC hosted a Bike Night on Friday the 11th. It was very cool. 33 bike showed up from all over the valley. There was food, drinks and giveaways (helmets, glove, caps and oil changes). Brian says they want to have this once a month to promote motorcycling, get feedback on events, merchandise, rides from the local bikers. In the fall they will change it to "Two Wheel Tuesday". The BLUE KNIGHTS ® is a non-profit fraternal organization consisting of active and retired law enforcement men & women who enjoy riding motorcycles. In the Spring of 1974, several law enforcement officers from the Bangor, Maine (USA) area met and and formed a small, local motorcycle club. The rest, as they say, is history. Soon, Blue Knight chapters were being formed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and beyond. With the addition of Canada, and later Australia, the Blue Knights became an international organization. Many Blue Knights work long and hard to raise money for various charities. Especially near to our hearts is helping children. Make-a-Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, D.A.R.E., and Concerns of Police Survivors are some examples of our favorites.
The Blue Knights is a family fraternity. Spouses and children often accompany our members to the various rides and functions. When travelling, local members can provide assistance, directions and sometimes a place to stay. We are truly a family. Among the Blue Knight members,"There are no strangers, only friends you haven't met." As a Chapter of the Blue Knights International we strive to follow the by-laws and maintain a good image of the Blue Knights. We are comprised of federal and local law enforcement, as well as area military, which includes, but is not limited to, Brawley, Calexico, and El Centro Police Departments, California Highway Patrol, The California Dept. of Corrections, United States Customs, Imperial County Sherrif's Dept., United States Border Patrol, the United States Navy and Marines, and the California National Guard. We hold our monthly meetings on the first thursday of each month in a location usually decided upon at the previous meeting. There we discuss all upcoming rides, events, and any other business that may come up.
One of our goals is to have at least one chapter ride per month. Not only one, but at least one. So far this year we're doin' good.
